Welcome! I’m glad you’re here.

I’m a vocal coach specializing in contemporary styles of singing and gender affirming speech. I’m a firm believer that anyone can learn any skill, and vocal lessons should be a collaborative space that allows for creativity – that it should be fun.

This studio was launched in early 2026 after years of teaching vocals at a corporate music school (and a healthy dose of burnout to boot). Creativity, authenticity, and community are at the heart of this business. I use tried-and-true methods that have helped my students achieve incredible results. My lessons prioritizes keeping your voice healthy. I utilize my extensive knowledge of vocal anatomy and pedagogy and include mindfulness and visualization practices for additional support.

Singing and Music

I’ve been singing for as long as I can remember. I have two decades of experiences performing in diverse contemporary styles; Pop, Rock, R&B, Singer/Songwriter, Jazz, and Musical Theater to name a few. I know mindset is everything for the singer and I encourage deliberate language use surrounding the voice.

In classic trans girl fashion, I used to find it difficult to sing in an affirming way. I always sang Tenor 2 or lower prior to my transition, leaving a very small sliver of my range that didn’t make me dysphoric. While many transfemme singers embrace their deep voice and sound incredible doing it, I know this is an issue for many of us. After analyzing dozens of femme-presenting singing voices and combining my knowledge of trans voice and singing technique, I’ve found a voice that makes me feel great, and if you’re facing the same predicament, I know I can help you too.

Gender Affirming Speech

Across the trans/gender-expansive community, the voice is a topic that inspires dread in some and indifference in others. Testosterone puberty causes the voice to deepen due to the vocal folds thickening, but the anatomy of the vocal tract stays the same. For FtM folks, this is what leads to the “T Voice” phenomenon. On the other hand, inestrogen puberty, the folds don’t thicken. For MtF folks who’ve already experienced a testosterone puberty, they see little to know change in pitch.

After all those years teaching music and singing at a corporate music school, I found I loved learning about the trans voice world. I’ve trained with experts in this field including Liz Jackson-Hearns of the Voice Lab, Chris Gallego, the brilliant folks at Seattle Voice Lab, and Renee Yoxon. After a teacher certification course from TVL and lots of continuing education I knew it was time to move forward and share my knowledge my own way. I put my knowledge of anatomy and singing to use when teaching trans voice, focusing on things like resonance, pitch and vocal weight. Finding a voice that doesn’t feel dysphoric can seem daunting, but I think I know how to make it fun.

But who are you?

I grew up in the suburbs of NYC. After receiving my B.Mu in Songwriting from Berklee College of Music, I moved between Massachusetts, Colorado and now I’m back in New York. As a musician I wear many musical hats besides just being a singer:

I’m a multi-instrumentalist who plays at least 5 or 6 things: piano, bass, guitar, ukulele, and woodwinds to name a few.

I’m a singer/songwriter — been writing since I was a teenager and writing, performing and releasing music under the name J. Nessa for a few years now.

While I still struggle with it, I’m always working on my production chops and I record demos regularly.

I’m a theater kid (can take the kid out the theater but never the theater out the kid).

I’m super into Traditional Irish Music and I’m learning the tin whistle.

When I’m not teaching you can find me at the climbing gym or climbing outside, playing too many video games, hiking, doing yoga, traveling, or trying to find new coffee shops in the area.
